- Performances: 1,143
- Open / Close: April 14, 1992 – January 8, 1995
- Theater: Martin Beck Theatre.
- Tony Awards: The production won 4 Tony Awards, half of the 8 it was nominated for. Faith Prince (who played Adelaide) beat out costar Josie de Guzman for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical. Suprisingly, Nathan Lane did NOT win the Tony this year, losing to Gregory Hines for his performance in Jelly’s Last Jam. Jerry Zaks won for Best Direction and Tony Walton for Best Scenic Design. We discuss the reasons for these victories in the podcast.
- Fun Fact: Twenty years later, Faith Prince would step in for Jane Lynch as Miss Hannigan in the revival of “Annie” in 2013. Also, as mentioned in the podcast, “Guys and Dolls” ties “Fiddler on the Roof” and “Oklahoma!” as the shows with more than 1,000 performances that have been revived on Broadway the most times – five revivals for each of them.

Phil Crosby is our go-to “Guy” for the most classic of the classic musical comedies and he was simply a “Doll” in his recounting of the impact this revival had back in 1992. And of course, he has personal anecdotes about many of the players including Virginia native Faith Prince and director Jerry Zaks. We’ll be covering “Guys and Dolls” again before too long and rest assured we only scratched the surface in talking about the revival. If you’re a fan of two theater nerds geeking out, this is the episode for you!
